Red Carpet Club B Concourse

10.22

Red Carpet Club, B Concourse, Chicago O’Hare.

Lobby call at 07.15. Biff dropped off John & I at Milwaukee airport and departed in Eddie – for now. Check-in with overweight charge, 15 minutes in the air to Chicago, now a 2-hour layover before the flight to Seattle & the Slow Music project.

10.50 The sharp suited thirty-something executive suit in the adjoining computer booth is repeatedly clearing his throat. I might tell him: you will never clear your throat - you are a throat-clearing booby. Interspersing throat-clearing, Mr. Suit-Booby has now had a good detritus-emptying of his right ear with a finger nail, followed by detailed inspection of the detritus this emptying yielded. Then, he returned to throat clearing. How might I approach this, I wonder? Perhaps to say excuse me: you’ll never manage to clear your throat because you’re a booby, locked into an habitual richter that is beyond your capacity to address; please consider the ramifications of this – in the substantial matters of your life you are just as powerless. Now, that’s a winning strategy. Instead, I adopted Plan B: every time he cleared his throat, I did the same immediately afterwards. His throat clearing has now diminished. Time to buy a baguette & move to boarding.

22.16 Ace Hotel, Seattle.

Bill Rieflin met John & I at the airport. We checked into Hotel Ace & then Bill took us shopping at the University Village Mall down the road. Unexpectedly, Bill’s Father was also shopping in the same supermarket: he shops there often, Bill almost never.

Everything is much better now: I am with family.
